Papum Pare lift Tang Memorial football trophy
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Papum Pare lifted its maiden Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football
Championship 2011-
Papum Pare had finished runners up in the previous edition of the championship.
Rahul Barman scored the lone goal of the match in 85th minute which later turned out to be the match winner.
The match started off aggressively with both the teams creating equal scoring opportunities; but neither team could score until Barman found the net in 85th minute sparking wild celebration among supporters.
The winner pocketed cash award of Rs.1,50,000 along with the coveted trophy while the runners up team was awarded Rs. 80,000 along with a trophy. The Fair play award with cash prize of Rs.10,000 went to Lower Dibang Valley district team.
Page Tashi of Capital Complex has won the “Golden Boot” after finishing top scorer of the tournament. Taba Topu of Papum Pare and Gangte Chapi of Capital Complex were adjudged the Best Goalkeeper and Man of the Tournament respectively. All individual winners were awarded cash prize of Rs. 3000 each.
RWD and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Speaker Jomde Kena gave away prizes to the winners and runners up. Local MLA Techi Kaso, Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering also enjoyed the match.
All together teams from eight districts participated in the championship beside APP and Capital Complex.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Football Association has proposed to conduct an invitational football tournament in memory of Late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu next year which was agreed by the junior Khandu.
The 11th and 12th edition of the Tadar Tang Memorial football tournament would be conducted in August and Nov/Dec. next respectively.

Educational development in Panggi areas

GEKU, Feb 1: Panggi Welfare Society (PWS), an umbrella organization of the Panggis, on Tuesday celebrated its 13th ‘Raising Day’ at Geku town in Upper Siang district.
Hundreds of people belonging to the community thronged at Geku town community hall on the occasion and pledged to work united for the overall development in the field of education and rural infrastructure.
Addressing the people on the occasion, Yingkiong Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rajesh Panyang pointed towards some malevolence practices that are a hindrance in social reforms.
He urged the PWS to work towards eradication of opium addiction, abolition of child and early marriages besides maintaining sanitary condition in the rural areas in order to prevent communicable diseases.
He urged the youths and student communities to shoulder the vital responsibility to reform the society and bring the rural people on the path of development.
Nine meritorious students belonging to the community, who secured 75 percent marks and above in Class X and XII in last CBSE examination, were felicitated with citation, certificate and cash prizes.
Among them was Nitnam Padun, who secured higher rank at the CBSE XII examination.
The PWS, since its formation in 1999, with an objective to unite the people of Pangi community sporadically spread throughout the Siang belt and other parts of the state, has been keeping regular vigil in the field of education. Besides other places, Panggis are presently spread in five villages of Geku, Sibum, Jeru, Sumsing and Pongging in Upper Siang district and parts of East Siang. Present Kumku village under Geku circle is believed to be original place of the Pangi community.

ITANAGAR, Feb 01: Expressing its displeasure over the alleged poor and irregular service of fuel depot at Wessang in Seppa, All East Kameng Borders Students Union (AEKBSU) today served 20 day’s ultimatum to the district administration cum chairman legal metrology and consumer’s affairs to act against oil depot to improve its supply.
In its representation to DC Seppa, AEKBSU informed that genuine customers are irked at erratic oil depot for its adulterated oil supply. It stated that despite repeated request by various organizations of the district for improvement of oil supply, there is no sign of any progress.

Tokir Doye passes away
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Social worker Tokir Doye passed away at her residence at Seren village, East Siang district on January 31.
Late Doye was the daughter of Late Mito Basar and wife of Late More Doye. Born in 1935, she is survived by five sons including ophthalmologist Dr R Doye, two daughters and several grandchildren.
During her life long journey, she touched the lives of many people with her simplicity and generosity and will be remembered by the society, family and dear ones for her immense contribution to the society.
Her last rites will take place at Seren village on February 2 with a memorial service at 9.30 am.
Ramle Banggo Welfare Society, Itanagar mourned the demise of Tokir Doye. In a condolence message it said that her demise is a great loss to the society.
IT consultants appeal for salary
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: All Arunachal Pradesh IT Consultant Association (AAPITCA) appealed to the chief minister and education minister to look into the grievances of 256 IT faculties and release the pending salary immediately.
It said that all the IT consultants are serving in various primary and middle schools under SSA as computer teachers without proper payment since last vacation.
The association had also submitted a memorandum to the education ministry to address their grievances but the department is yet to pay heed to it grievances, it said.

Increased use of diesel and health risk
A latest analysis by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) finds that in 2011-

greater revenue losses due to the under-
CSE’s review of the market trends reveals that cheap diesel is pushing the market towards bigger cars that guzzle more fuel. Car industry on an overdrive to produce more large diesel cars.
With each litre of petrol replaced by diesel to run a car, the excise earnings of the government drop seven times. These revenue losses will compound with the increased share of diesel cars in the market. The effect of increased use of diesel in cars is so dramatic that the excise earnings from both diesel and petrol has nearly equalled.
According to CSE researchers, if the new diesel car fleet were to pay the same excise as that of petrol cars, the potential excise revenue can be Rs 100,000 crore from the lifetime fuel use of the new car fleet to be sold between 2009 and 2015.
It is shocking that when the demand for higher taxes on diesel cars is hitting a crescendo, there is a strong move to block it. Estimates reportedly arrived at by Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the 12th Planning Working Group on Petroleum Sector (WGP) are trying prove that diesel cars use a negligible amount of the fuel. According to them, personal cars, and taxis together consume only 5 per cent of the total diesel used up in the country.

When teachers are forced to take loans to run their families

The Right to Education is being implemented in Arunachal Pradesh for bright future of our young generation. But state Govt has forgotten the crucial role of SSA teachers for successful implementation of the RTE.
Despite economic hardship, the SSA teachers are diligently performing their duty with sincerity and devotion since 2003. In interior areas, most of the schools are run by SSA teachers.
All the time, the state Government is luring the SSA teachers to perform their duty
sincerely by assuring them of enhancing their salary and regularizing their job batch-
I personally request the state Government to release the pending SSA teachers’ salary and arrears and regularize 2003 batch teachers at one go.
Maximum number of 2003 batch SSA teachers have crossed the age limit while serving
the state. Therefore, it is moral duty of the people-
How can state Govt expect quality service from SSA teachers with meager salary? It is shameful act on the part of the state Govt if it is unable to contribute 10 per cent state’s share for the monthly salary of SSA teachers.
If our people-
Our state Govt should learn something from Assam Education and Health Minister, how he is setting an example for other North East states by running both the departments effectively.
I would also like to appeal to the pressure groups and NGOs to support the AASSATA movement. State Govt is compelling the SSA teachers to go for strike though annual examination of students is knocking at the door.

instead. Our politicians, bureaucrats and contractors used the system as their swimming
pool. The Government procures highly subsidized rice at Rs. 12 per kg and sells it
at Rs. 3 per kg to the priority groups through Fair Price Shop. The dishonest FPS
owner makes a killing by selling the Government-
The Draft National Food Security Bill was approved by National Advisory Council (NAC) in 11th July 2011. Subsequently the Union Cabinet of India on 18th December 2011 approved it. The Bill favoured reform of PDS through reduced government intervention in procuring, storing and distributing food grains. It also gives detailed norms for Fair Price Shops, ration cards and monitoring the system and even penalties for dereliction of duty by public servants, which includes deduction of penalty from the salary of the public servant. Let us check out how this Bill works in Arunachal Pradesh in coming days.

Not quite a youth festival
Dear editor,
I would like to share my experience about the first ever mega All Kurung Kumey District Students Union youth festival which was held at Koloriang. I appreciate those who conceptualized the marvelous idea.
But we are still confused whether it was political rally, Union convention or Youth festival. I thought the mega festival would reflect about the young generation of the entire district but it was just like a political rally.
Everybody thought that there would be an exhibition of ornaments, traditional foods, local garment, culture etc but there was nothing. Before going to the festival, I had dreamed a lot about the youth festival and was very excited about it. We were hoping that festival would give us a chance to introduce ourselves and know each other and that organizing committee will receive us warmly but to my great surprise, delegates from every Branch of Student Union (BSU) were left to fend for ourselves.
According to the intimation, the organizing committee had said that there would cash prize for all events apart from other prizes. But to our surprise when competition was up, cash plus certificate was replaced by cup plus certificate. Where were those commitments? Where is that quintals of money estimated for the festival?
Please do not fool the society. Everybody hoped that festival will bring us closer and would bring changes in the society. But hope is hopeless.
Last but not least, I have seen football match without semi final, volley ball match without referee and an occasion without reception of guest.
I myself belong to Kurung Kumey district and I should not expose the demerits of our people but it was too much to bear. I request the youth of our district please do not indulge in wrong ways in near future.
The selection and election of student leader should be based on merit of the person. Rules once constituted should not be broken. Making rules on spot should be avoided in order to free ourselves from biases. So we expect that in near future they will lead the union in a good way to achieve great height.

Don’t humiliate teachers
Dear Editor,
So far I know, the state Govt assured two months’ pending salary to SSA teachers in previous week which was turned down by AASSATA, instead, they announced indefinite pen down strike from Feb 1 till fulfillment of its demands by authorities.
Now the state Govt has assured one month’s enhanced salary with a request to withdraw the proposed strike. I think the state Govt is humiliating the SSA teachers with British policy of suppression. How long the SSA teachers will continue their service with meager salary ?
I extend my support to the SSA teachers’ proposed demand and its movement and also appeal to the state Govt to fulfill their demands without fail.
